Welcome to the symposium "Machine Learning in Meteorology and Climate"
This symposium aims to present and discuss the current scientific applications of machine learning techniques within meteorology, oceanography and climate. Machine learning has been proven very useful when conventional techniques are difficult to apply, computationally expensive, or inaccurate. Although the applications of machine learning are very diverse, ranging from weather forecasting to classifying satellite images, they often have the same basic purpose: extracting relevant information from large quantities of data from observations and numerical models. This common ground provides potential for a valuable interdisciplinary exchange of ideas regarding the use of machine learning within each discipline.
BBOS spring symposium 2020
The symposium is organized as the BBOS spring symposium 2020. It will be held on 25th of September 2020 (09:30-16:30). Due to the COVID-19, the symposium will be fully virtual. We use Zoom to set up the online conference venue. More information about the access to the online stream of the event will be included in an email from the organizers. In case you don't receive this email one hour before the event (Sept 25th at 8:30 a.m.), please contact the organizers (menno.veerman@wur.nl)
Registration
We have closed the registration link. But the last-minute registration is still possible via email to the organizers (menno.veerman@wur.nl). We will keep you updated about the event via email after you register your attendance.
Acknowledgement
We would like to thank the Meteorology and Air Quality group of Wageningen University and Research (WUR), and the Buys Ballot Research School (BBOS) for supporting this symposium.
